wedge - ->
Fast + Processed Food has a long term cost that reveals a multitude of hazards.
Contract: caveat emptor Let the buyer of a service or product beware! This Latin expression defines the principle that the seller of a service or product cannot be held responsible for its quality.
This contract between the user and the School is negotiated on their terms. “Curriculum” is given to the student as an immediate means to move the student to an ambiguous level of minimal entry requirements for game play (it also serves as a validation for the price structures of traditional lessons).
PSIA asserts that a novice should hurry to “downhill ski,” albeit in a debased form, without any valid safety protocol. It delivers a fast outcome where students are loosely enacting a subjective definition of what they deem as “the right way to ski” and it is accompanied by the promise of immediate gratification: moving down the slope.
It is a programming system for learning that is ultimately discarded when the user levels up. The problem is that the initial programming of the primary stance is not easily wiped from the recesses of the mind/kinesthetic memory (fortunately, a new model can be imprinted), therefore, when a user encounters trouble or calamity, they call upon wedge attributes to save them, but it is not designed for that.
Wedge is both an anchor and a crutch that sequesters you into a prolonged habit which compromises confidence and develops lingering patterns of reactionary miscues, whereby the skier/user hesitates when they should react to any signs of caution.
Wedge is not only hesitation - it is embodied by resistance. When you use wedge - you are resisting - or fighting against the natural forces at play inherent in gliding down a snowy slope.
It is a 1 year contract = 30 Days on Snow
Estimate this crutch and trap (pizza rattle) instantly and undeniably marks you as a lower status - you will spend the next 18 months overcoming this impediment that you paid heavily for. Know that more le$$ons are required...
There is a hitch in the contract - the fine print or basically “the Elephant in the Room”. How does the user get to the intermediary step or bridge from Wedge to Parallel Turns?
The promise that the user will ascend Blue Square Intermediate trails is dangled in front of them. They have to toil and play the fool for an indefinite period of ritual hazing.
Using a snowplow on an Intermediate Blue Square Trail could be a game changer.
Wedge places the user in a prolonged, physiologically compromised stasis that creates unnecessary tension (physically and emotionally) from its unconfident stance.
The potential for accidents due to anxiety/uncertainty is amplified.

Sameness - trapped in a regular routine over and over - it becomes an extension of the Grind - that from which the user seeks refuge.
It means that you will do what a pledge does for a fraternity or sorority for status: subject yourself to danger, ridicule, affirmations of lower self esteem, a period of being a clown (not the scary kind)
Mindset/Culture/Objectives:
Hurry down the slopes so you can wait in line and hurry back up the chairlift so you can get good and eventually become a cool looking “Expert.” Repeat.
Turning down slopes in an “S” like pattern, in a repetitive rhythm and cycle in the flux of the other bees in the same hive mind.
Go to the lodge to wait to eat lunch and spend $ and lose valuable time at the same time as everyone else.
Doctrine for new students combines toddler-level concepts + Legalese, command-coded jargon to speak at the user.
WEDGE is used 80% of the time when it is only really needed maybe 20% at the most.
The posture of Wedge is used to gradually assimilate the user into gaining a handle on performing parallel turns (slalom). This is a formed ideal that is passed down from an older generational view of the sport (MTN 1.0).
Is this really what going to the mountain is all about?
The Coveted One-pointed Double Diamond Goal. Ego gratification. Many in the cult of Black Diamond Experts subscribe to the culture’s underlying theme in that bigger is better. Faster is better. Higher is better. Steeper is better. More trails is better. Thereby some allow this to dictate their choices and drive up prices while they constantly chase after speed when they identify with “extreme” fancy. This is the higher goal in this culture and it causes many to create an unsafe and toxic environment.
Community takes the form of cliques or silos: the racers, the experts, the snowboarders, the intermediates, the new-schoolers, the tele-markers, the novices, the ski/snowboard school instructors, the lift-ops, the food and beverage workers ad infinitum

Safety -->
Contract:Orientation-Safety Protocols
Places the user in a temporary zone or phase that acts simultaneously as a lifeline or buffer. This phase dissipates unexpectedly when the student reaches a level of natural progression and attunement to slope game play. There is no need for shutting it off or discarding the original programming. It stays with your kinesthetic memory and is ready to use when needed to keep you and others safe.
The Area Code -> 1(212) -> The Primary Pattern of MTN 2.0
It works with both approaches and makes all the difference when it counts. Alternative approach Diagonal Drift Drive is complementary to Mainstream Forward Edge Drive.
Safety is embodied by liberation, or, cooperation. Going with the flow - like water trickling down a hillside. Naturally finding a way.
When the user is in Drift Mode or Safety - the user is yielding to the natural forces at play - however, it is not controlling the user. It is a symbiotic state-of-play.
Learning zone - Home Turf - territory is established for the user where they may hone skills in a safe environment that is free of status hang-ups.
Next phase is attainable in the first day or session (3 hour steps of learning) An intermediate slope (Blue Square) is proven to be attainable in a safe atmosphere augmented by true team spirit.
Orientation - is established early in the lesson plan via pictorial display in the app/book in pre-slope lesson lecture.
Mindset/Culture/Objectives:
Community takes a collaborative approach to mountain culture when engaged in Drift Drive. Everyone is in the same status tier - a Green Circle Novice. The Green Circle reminds one that even the best in a field still have plenty to learn. This opens up new possibilities when this attitude is adopted.
